The Salaverri Windsor Group recently had the absolute pleasure of attending "Dames at Sea" at Florida Studio Theatre, and it was nothing short of delightful! This high-energy musical charmed us from start to finish with its clever nods to 1930s Broadway, dazzling choreography, and standout performances that truly captured the essence of classic musical theatre. We feel so fortunate to have Broadway-caliber talent right here in Sarasota.
The Plot: Ruby, a wide-eyed chorus girl from Utah, arrives in New York City with dreams of making it big. With the help of Dick, a sailor and aspiring songwriter, she lands a role in a struggling show. When the star unexpectedly drops out—and the theater faces closure—Ruby steps into the spotlight. Featuring toe-tapping numbers like "Good Times Are Here to Stay" and "Broadway Baby," this charming musical celebrates the golden age of Broadway with wit, heart, and plenty of sparkle.
The six-member cast brought an infectious energy to every scene, blending romance, comedy, and tap-dancing flair into an engaging 90-minute performance. FST's intimate setting allowed each moment—every note, lyric, and shuffle of a tap shoe—to shine.
